The Role

Accounting Manager - Roles and Responsibilities

• The Accounting Manager is expected to take on a broad range of responsibilities to ensure the smooth and compliant operation of the company's finance and accounting functions. This role is particularly suited to candidates with experience supporting accounting operations for small to mid-sized organizations and maintaining high standards of financial practice. Key responsibilities include:
• Overseeing monthly and year-end closing processes
• Managing core financial accounts, including:
• Cash receipts
• Accounts payable and receivable
• Inventory activity
• Capital assets and fixed asset reconciliations
• General ledger items
• Ensuring alignment with global accounting policies and supporting financial targets
• Conducting monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts
• Managing employee expense reimbursement processes (e.g., through systems like 楽楽精算)
• Preparing and maintaining monthly cash flow forecasts
• Generating monthly trial balances using ERP data and performing data analysis
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes, and implementing corrective measures
• Assigning tasks and guiding staff to maintain compliance and accuracy
• Meeting all financial reporting requirements and deadlines
• Coordinating annual tax filings in collaboration with an external tax advisor
• Supporting financial audits when required (note: currently, no external audit is mandated)
• Establishing and enforcing appropriate accounting methods, policies, and standards as needed

Your Skills

Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated experience in a managerial role within accounting or finance (e.g., Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, or Accounting Supervisor)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with accounting software and databases
• Familiarity with accounting and ERP systems; experience with payroll systems is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
• Capable of handling competing demands and shifting deadlines
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Committed to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information appropriately
• Comfortable working with large datasets and conducting financial analysis
• Solid understanding of accounting principles, standards, practices, and relevant regulations
• Ability to lead and supervise team members effectively
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in accounting
• At least 3 years of experience in a team leadership or people management role
• Native-level proficiency in Japanese
• Business-level to fluent proficiency in English
