What we do
The Japan Professional Development Associate Director will be responsible for leading Professional Development and supporting Consultant Staffing in Japan, and in partnership with the Regional Leaders. The Associate Director will focus on people related needs such as learning & development, career progression, and performance management, partnering closely with Industry and Practice Leaders. Additionally, the Associate Director will work in partnership with the wider Japan, Global PD, and L&D functions, as well as Japan HR on Gartner Consulting strategic people priorities. This role reports directly to the MVP, Professional Development.
Role Purpose
Japan Consultant Staffing:
Lead a team of PD associates as they support staffing and develop the Research Consultants, Associate Consultants, Consultants, Senior Consultants. Be the first point of contact for staffing escalations whenever possible. Participate and support staffing calls.
Embed a staffing culture amongst the associates and leaders in Japan – including coaching teams on engagement design, adherence to the staffing cycle cadence and the apprenticeship mindset in staffing.
Japan Professional Development:
Partner with Global Leader of Professional Development and Region Leads on all strategic talent priorities within Japan.
Across Industries and Practices, develop one-on-one relationships with Associate Directors, Directors, and Senior Directors to provide guidance and mentoring on career management, objectives, and understanding and embracing the Professional Development process. Support associates in understanding role profiles and competencies and discuss career path choices as appropriate.
Embed a culture of learning by planning and executing a full year of learning & development training opportunities
Partner with MPs across Industries to support and understand their anchor and emerging anchor accounts.
Partner with HR to manage the associate evaluation processes, feedback, and promotions.
Lead priority professional development global strategic initiatives such as refining engagement feedback, onboarding, revamping competencies, or championing the EM Learning Journey.
Japan Community and Associate Engagement:
In partnership with other functions and the business, support associate onboarding, talent strategy, and Counselor/counselee pairings.
Develop and present at Regional or Japan Town Halls, local trainings and other events, e.g. focus groups, as required.

Role Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
MBA Preferred
A range of 8-10 years professional experience is required, 2 years progressive experience in management required, preferably in a Talent role.
Experience in staffing or resource management, ideally in a consulting environment.
Extensive experience in presenting and communicating ideas to others
Proven experience in managing and developing staff from different organizations and with diversified levels, skills and backgrounds.
Strong customer service, meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills necessary.
Strong analytical, problem solving and quantitative skills.
Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required.
Ability to deal with highly confidential information appropriately; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint is required
Must be able to work in dynamic environment with challenging deadlines.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent organizational, interpersonal, and team skills.
Outstanding project management skills (projects involving internal and external stakeholders) with an ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads.
