Breakfast Line Cook & Prep Chef Location Salt Spring Island, BC :

We are looking for an experienced Breakfast Line Cook/Prep Cook to join our team for the summer. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality & food, a strong work ethic and a desire to always be getting better. The successful candidate will be responsible for prep work and may also help on the line during lunch or dinner service. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and motivated individual to join a dynamic team and make a big impact on our restaurant during our busy season. **Subsidized housing available**

Responsibilities:

  • Prep ingredients for breakfast service and then fire dishes to order.
  • Wash, cut, and prepare food and ingredients for cooking.
  • Prepare all of the kitchen tools necessary for cooking and cleaning, occasionally wash dishes, clear up messes, organize the storage areas and shelves in the kitchen, and respond to the needs of Chefs and other cooking staff.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Follow standard kitchen safety protocols.
  • Be able to explain dishes to wait staff.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of safe food storage guidelines
  • Ability to use kitchen utensils safely
  • Ability to take direction and work as a team player
  • Knowledge of some specific cooking processes such as reducing sauces, parboiling food, boiling water, or preheating pans and ovens

Job Types: Full-time, SeasonalContract length: 3 months

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week

Flexible Language Requirement:

  • French not required

Education:

  • Secondary School (preferred)

Experience:

  • Cooking: 5 years (required)

Language:

  • English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Food Handler Certification (preferred)
  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
