We are a general contracting business made up of carpenter's, laborers, project managers, & office staff. We specialize in residential construction: renovating and building custom homes for clients. SUMMARY

The Carpenter’s Assistant is responsible for all general labor on a construction site and the day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness. Responsibilities include organizing materials, picking up materials, and disposing of debris as needed. Additional responsibilities include demolition, assisting the Carpenter and Project Manager as well as clean-up on job sites. The position may assist other craft workers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

• Assist carpenter by making cuts, measurements, preparing materials, and lending a hand
• Accurately tracking job names, materials purchased, and your time spent on tasks
• Preparing of jobsites by covering floors and installing dust barriers
• Picking up materials from suppliers
• Receiving material orders on the jobsite and properly organizing them
• Moving of materials on jobsites and in Fresh Start Contracting’s shop
• General maintaining and cleaning of jobsites and Fresh Start Contracting’s shop
• Demolishing of residential spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens, and other interior spaces
• Demolishing of exterior spaces such as porches, siding, windows, and doors
• Excavating holes up to 4’ deep safely and accurately and preparing footings
• Keeping jobsite walkways and egresses clear always. This might include raking leaves or removing snow depending on the season.
• Driving company vehicle as needed to pick up materials or dispose of debris
• Keeping workspaces clean, organized, and safe
• Safely using basic hand tools and occasionally using power tools
• Properly using step ladders and extension ladders
• Performing work at varying heights on stepladders and extension ladders
• Submitting hours worked accurately and timely each week for payroll processing
• Working independently while providing attention to detail, quality, and staying on task until finished
• Operating a Smartphone (emails, photos, and texting, etc.) to regularly communicate job site information
• Assisting with clients’ needs as instructed by the Project Manager
• Adhering to safety and security measures as appropriate to perform work
• Ensuring that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed
• Bringing problems to the attention of the Project Manager
• Performing other duties as assigned

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Knowledge of carpentry tools equipment and landscaping preferred
• Should possess all necessary hand tools (basic set)
• Must have a caring and professional demeanor and enjoy helping families at a challenging time
• Valid driver’s license is required
• Ability to follow plans and instructions
• Knowledge of safety hazards and safe working practices related to work performed
• Ability to understand and implement safety procedures as required by supervisor
• Regularly inspect and maintain equipment and notify supervisor is there is a problem
• Ability to work overtime as needed
• Adhere to Fresh Start Contracting’s “Code of Conduct” presenting professional image in dress, grooming, and demeanor

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position lifts heavy objects, walks, and stands for extended periods of time, and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The work will be performed on and off the jobsite which requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, push, pull, reach, carry, lift, grasp, squat or stoop, bend and twist the body while performing essential duties. The position requires using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. The work will be performed indoors and outdoors in all seasons, including harsh weather conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
