Our client is a global B2B payment FinTech company embarking on their expansion into the Japanese market. As part of their initial market entry, they are seeking a dedicated Compliance Officer to lead all regulatory and compliance-related initiatives in Japan. This is a unique opportunity to join as the second hire in Japan, directly supporting the Country Manager and playing a critical role in establishing the local entity.
Key Responsibilities: Serve as the key point of contact with the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA) and other relevant regulatory bodies. Lead the end-to-end process for obtaining necessary financial licenses to operate in Japan. Build and implement internal compliance frameworks aligned with Japanese regulatory standards (AML, KYC, CFT, etc.). Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with local regulations. Collaborate with global compliance and legal teams to ensure local operations are aligned with global standards. Provide regulatory guidance on new products and services being launched in the Japan market. Ideal Candidate: 5-10+ years of compliance experience in the financial services or FinTech industry, ideally with exposure to B2B payments or related areas. Strong understanding of the Japanese financial regulatory landscape and licensing processes. Proven track record of liaising with the JFSA or other relevant authorities. Self-starter mindset with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Fluent in Japanese and proficient in English, both written and spoken.
