Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to join our team in Kelowna , supporting the development and execution of infrastructure and civil construction projects. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of heavy civil construction, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to estimating and project planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including:

    • Roadworks

    • Earthworks and grading

    • Underground utilities

    • Bridges and retaining walls

    • Site development

  • Develop quantity take-offs and cost summaries for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.

  • Identify and evaluate project risks and provide input into pricing strategies and contingency planning.

  • Solicit pricing and proposals from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring scope alignment and cost competitiveness.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other internal stakeholders to refine estimates and support pre-construction planning.

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project conditions and incorporate findings into the estimate.

  • Prepare and present bid packages and tender submissions to clients and stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update historical cost databases and estimating tools.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in estimating heavy civil projects in BC or Western Canada.

  • Strong knowledge of local construction practices, material costs, and subcontractor markets.

  • Proficient in estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, B2W Estimate, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Kelowna, BC, with occasional travel to project sites or regional offices as required.
