Job Title: Estimator – Mechanical Construction
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our mechanical construction team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in commercial and industrial construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to interpret project plans and specifications to ensure competitive and profitable bids.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for mechanical systems.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field staff to gather information and confirm scopes of work.
Identify and assess risk factors that may impact project costs and timelines.
Prepare detailed proposal packages and bid submissions within required deadlines.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project handoff meetings.
Maintain a database of historical cost data and unit prices for reference in future estimates.
Assist in value engineering efforts and cost-saving alternatives during the estimating process.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in HVAC, plumbing, and piping for commercial or industrial projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and building codes.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, FastEST, QuoteSoft, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Experience with design-build and plan-and-spec projects.
Familiarity with BIM and 3D modeling tools is a plus.
