Located lakefront in the heart of downtown Kelowna, the Kelowna Yacht Club provides our members with top-quality moorage in Canada's largest fresh-water marina. we offer an unparalleled lakeside experience featuring upscale dining, year-round social programming, and a welcoming community for all ages. Kelowna Yacht Club has been supporting boater education and safe, responsible enjoyment of Okanagan Lake since 1945. Our facility is a resource for community partners such as the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron and Adaptive Sailing Association.
Summary of Position
The Server role will be allocated to the Member Lounge as well as shifts in our banquet room may be required. This role is responsible for providing friendly, responsive service to ensure exceptional dining experience for all members and guests. The primary objective is to create such a memorable experience that members will want to return again and again.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Interaction
- Greet and welcome guests, ensuring they feel comfortable and attended to.
- Inform guests of specials and menu changes, making recommendations based on their preferences.
- Answer questions regarding food, beverages, and member lounge services.
- Monitor members' dining experience, ensuring satisfaction with food and service.
- Respond promptly and courteously to any requests or concerns.
Service & Operations
- Record member number and verify their picture coordinates.
- Take orders from members and enter them into the point-of-sale system.
- Deliver food and beverages to members in a timely manner.
- Perform side work and maintain clean service areas throughout the shift.
- Assist support staff and hosts with clearing and resetting tables as needed.
- Prepare final bills, process payments, and handle cash or credit transactions.
- Be flexible and assist fellow staff members when needed to ensure smooth operations.
- Complete all additional duties as assigned by the on duty manager and/or supervisors and shift leads.
Restaurant Maintenance
- Ensure the dining area and workstations are clean and always organized.
- Complete opening and closing duties, including setting up the server station, cleaning tables, and maintaining supplies.
- Assist with restocking, polishing cutlery, glassware, and cleaning equipment.
Service Excellence
- Provide friendly, efficient food and beverage service, handling bill settlements.
- Alert managers as soon as an error, concern or feedback determines unsatisfactory experience has occurred.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
- Ensure complete knowledge of the menu, daily specials, beverages and complete menu checks, reviews are up to date.
- Follow steps of service with each guest and upsell when appropriate.
- Act as a team player, supporting crew with tasks like seating, running drinks, clearing tables, and resetting areas.
Operational Efficiency
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up stations and ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
- Keep an accurate record of checks and balances in the daily report.
- Contribute to the profitability of the restaurant by delivering excellent service and maintaining cleanliness.
Qualifications & requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of dining serving experience.
- Over the age of 19 years of age.
- Knowledge of industry practices, good food and wine appreciation.
- Solid team and leadership skills, with the ability to assist and support others.
- Willingness to work on short notice and be flexible with scheduling.
- Ability to educate guests on the menu and wine offerings without being overbearing.
- Flexibility with scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Certification in Serving It Right (or equivalent) and Food Safe Level 1 (or higher).
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
- Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 20 to 25 pounds.

Compensation & Benefits
- Contract minimum wage position of Full-Time .
