Main Duties

FRONT OF HOUSE 

• Welcoming visitors to Drawing Room 
• Answering all visitor enquiries; in-person, by phone and email 
• Staying informed of Drawing Room’s programme of exhibitions and events 
• Ensuring that all spaces open to the public remain clean and tidy 
• Encouraging visitors to complete feedback surveys, conducting one-to-one surveys where appropriate  
• Ensuring the safety of the public whilst Drawing Room is open 

SHOP 

• Processing shop sales, returns and exchanges 
• Replenishing stock and keeping the shop well presented 
• Packing and sending online orders 
• Accurately cashing up and recording shop figures each day once the gallery has closed 
• Managing shop deliveries 

EXHIBITIONS 

• Invigilating gallery spaces to ensure the safety and security of the artworks on display 
• Assisting with monitoring and recording the environmental conditions of gallery spaces 
• Providing ad hoc practical and administrative support to the Exhibitions Manager 
• Supporting with the delivery of the Exhibitions’ Events programme 

COMMUNICATIONS 

• Updating MailChimp when new visitors sign up to our mailing list 
• Responding to Press enquiries 
• Obtaining image permissions for publication purposes
• Contributing to content creation for Drawing Room’s website and social media output

This is not an exhaustive list of duties and other responsibilities may be allocated within reasonable remit of the role. As part of a small team, candidates should be ready and willing to assist with other aspects of gallery administration and operations. 

Skills and Experience Required

This role would be particularly suitable for students and/or early-career arts professionals looking to gain professional experience within a growing and ambitious arts organisation. The responsibilities of this role will be primarily Front of House focused, but there will also be scope to develop new skills assisting with Drawing Room’s communications, events and exhibitions management.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE 

• Experience of working in a Visitor Services environment, preferably within a gallery setting 

SKILLS 

• Excellent organisational and time management skills 
• Confident IT skills across Microsoft Office and Outlook  
• Strong verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate to a wide range of people 

QUALITIES  

• Punctual and reliable 
• A positive and collaborative approach to working within a small team  
• A keen interest in contemporary art and galleries 
• Personable, with a genuine interest in people 
• Ability to work independently, taking initiative on day-to-day duties

DESIRABLE  

• Experience working in a retail environment 
• Basic knowledge of using Premiere Pro and/or Photoshop (to edit images/videos for uploading to social media/website)
