SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of the Communications Department, the incumbent is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, recommending and producing graphic and visual materials for all graphic supports. He shall prepare the graphics material, review and correct document proofs and ensure the quality of the finished product based on the requirements of the departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Promotional and Advertising Services
Evaluate, organize, plan and conceptualize the graphic image of promotional materials designed to convey various marketing strategies through numerous visual communication methods
Research, assemble and suggest templates for all advertising media, as well as the layout of brochures, flyers, banners, schedules, forms, signs, calendars, cards, vehicle identification, letters, business cards, information kits, annual reports, TV screens, promotional animations and videos, websites, etc.
Produce original visual elements that will be used in various organizational presentations and assignments
Meet with staff to interpret and develop design concepts that meet their goals, and assess the time required to complete a job
Ensure that all requested modifications are included in the final version
Request proofs from printers for large-scale projects before final printing
Collaborate with photographers, printers and other suppliers to achieve the desired style, meet required standards and obtain high-quality graphics for the project
Check the printing rate with printers
Explore different variants for the layout and photographic composition, the typography and the promotional language, colours, backgrounds and format
Reserve advertising space in newspapers, meet the required specifications and confirm the final product after revision
Meet the established deadlines
Seek the best quality-to-price ratio for the printing of materials
2. Management of Photo Banks
Search for and take various photographs, download and classify professional photos on the server
Create web galleries in Lightroom
Anticipate photo needs
Respond to requests for photographs; make changes based on a raw format and convert into the appropriate format
3. Other
Monitor and learn about the results obtained/initial objectives and propose solutions to maintain the vitality and freshness of graphic communication
Research and try out new software, and recommend updates for existing software
Keep up-to-date on industry standards in the field of advertising and graphic design
Participate in production team and other meetings
Travel to pick up proofs or final copies from the printer or to install promotional materials in various municipal facilities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent and college diploma in graphic arts or a related field
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in the field of technical and graphic design and production in order to control the graphic chain from design to implementation
Significant experience in a work environment where collaboration and teamwork are essential
Experience in a municipal environment would be an asset
Experience in marketing would be an asset
Driver's license
Class 5 driver's licence or the ability to obtain one
Knowledge
Proficiency in spoken and written French and English
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign and Lightroom)
Knowledge of Wix, Canva, and video editing software is an asset
Knowledge of corporate branding, layout, colour theory and typography for print and digital media
Excellent knowledge and mastery of all aspects of file preparation for printing
Excellent knowledge of MAC environment used in the graphic chain
Skills
Highly developed sense of creativity and curiosity about new developments in the field
Ability to work independently, without constant supervision, and as part of a team
Ability to quickly understand assignments and to identify areas for improvement
Good organizational skills, ability to meet very tight deadlines, attention to detail
Ability to manage several files and projects simultaneously
Shows initiative, ability to promote ideas and implement new advertising and promotional initiatives
