Junior School Music Teacher
Full-Time - Permanent
Commencing end of August 2025 

Annual Salary Range: $69,190 - $134,047 (depending on qualifications and years of experience)

The arts at BSS are integral to how our students learn about themselves and the world around them. In our Junior School, the students from  JK to Grade 5 learn vocal and percussion skills with a focus on rhythmic movement and songs. Grade 6 introduces instrumental music with ukulele, band, and strings. The Junior Choir and optional Fun Plus program offer opportunities for vocal, musical theatre and dance performances that foster an understanding of musical concepts, technique, composition and performance.

What You’ll Do:

  • Teaches general music class to JK to Grade 4 and grade 5 and 6 band
  • Participate in co-curricular - Grade 4 to 6 choir and an after school choir
  • Prepare lesson plans, outlines and assessments using inquiry and problem-based learning that engages students, challenges them, and meets the subject-specific outcomes and expectations 
  • Initiates, coordinates and/or co-constructs performance opportunities including showcase for the community, chapels and assemblies 
  • Ability to differentiate lesson plans based on the needs of your students 
  • Ensures the curriculum is aligned with Ministry of Education expectations, and with the BSS Culture of Powerful Learning 
  • Make contributions that productively support the overall well-being and growth of students 
  • Incorporates technology in the music classes (i.e. GarageBand, iMovie, midi keyboards, etc.) 
  • Communicate effectively with parents about all aspects of the overall program and the individual learning of each student 

Who You Are:

  • Must have an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate preferably Vocal Music, Instrumental
  • Are qualified to each in Junior/Intermediate
  • Familiarity and or knowledge of the Kodály method
  • Familiarity with Orff (Karl Orff)
  • Strong technology skills and proficiency in Google Suite 
  • Commitment to, and passion for, furthering the work of the school, an Inquiry-based approach to learning, and girls’ education   
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the proven ability to develop relationships and a caring rapport with students and their families, and with teachers   
  • Commitment to participate as a collaborative member in all aspects of the school and in school life
