Position Information This is a corporate position with a home base at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.
Rotation/Shifts Days, including weekends, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements - Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Minimum of three (3) months experience performing lactation consultation;
- Successful completion and/or awaiting written exam results of the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification;
- Theoretical knowledge of the care of women in the postpartum or post-operative period and ability to apply this knolwedge in the clinical setting;
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the nursing process;
- Demonstrates a desire and ability to participate in patient teaching and in the development of educational materials;
- Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, the public and colleagues;
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and effectively as an active member of the health care team;
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines;
- Demonstrates sound interpersonal and problem solving/decision making skills;
- Demonstrates clinical expertise in the assessment of the lactating woman and the newborn;
- Identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities;
- Demonstrates understanding of and participation in the evaluation process;
- Demonstrates an understanding of the apllication and relevance of continous quality improvement activities and research;
- Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the Nursing Utilization Collection system and willingness to participate on an ongoing Basis;
- Eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications - A degree in Nursing;
- Neonatal Resuscitation program Provider Certificate.
- Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
