Job Title: Language Manager Japanese

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Language Manager for Japanese to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of linguistic quality and consistency across all Japanese-language projects. You will manage a team of linguists, oversee quality processes, and serve as the primary linguistic authority for Japanese. This position plays a critical role in scaling our language services and maintaining client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support a team of freelance and in-house Japanese linguists.

  • Develop and maintain key linguistic assets, including style guides, glossaries, and translation memories.

  • Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure consistency and linguistic excellence.

  • Collaborate closely with project managers on scheduling, resource allocation, and deliverables.

  • Provide linguistic feedback and guidance to internal teams and external partners.

  • Address and resolve escalations related to language quality, style, or terminology.

  • Contribute to translation and editing tasks as needed.

  • Recruit and onboard qualified Japanese linguists based on project demands.

  • Evaluate translation tests to assess the capabilities of prospective linguists.

  • Set performance metrics (KPIs) and monitor the progress of new team members.

  • Participate in testing and implementation of new tools, workflows, and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Native-level fluency in Japanese and excellent command of English .

  • Solid experience in translation, editing, and language quality management.

  • Proficiency with CAT tools , QA tools , and Translation Management Systems (TMS) .

  • Proven experience in managing linguistic teams (freelance or in-house).

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including project management, engineering, and client-facing roles.

  • Familiarity with localization workflows and best practices in terminology and asset management.
