POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Tradesperson (Electrician)

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform electrical installation, maintenance, inspection and repair work across all City-owned facilities.

DIVISION / DEPARTMENT: Recreation, Culture and Facilities / Facilities

RESPONSIBLE TO: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED: Electrical related tools, small hand tools, small power tools, ladder, shovel, broom, city vehicle, snow blower, and salt spreader.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Interior and exterior settings during all and weather conditions.  Frequent standing, bending, stooping and climbing.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 kg (55lbs).  Manual dexterity required for precision work with small components.  Exposure to electrical hazards requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.  Potential exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals.  Occasional work in awkward positions or cramped quarters including confined spaces.  Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glass, hearing protection, arc flash gear, etc.

RESPONSIBLE FOR: 1. Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems, including wiring, conduit, breakers, and distribution panels in all City-owned facilities as per the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. 2. Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems including lighting, panels, motors, emergency systems, fire alarms, and other critical infrastructure. 3. Maintain accurate records of electrical inspections, repairs, and modifications. 4. Maintain and update electrical as-built drawings, schematics, and records. 5. Coordinate with external contractors and utility companies as directed by the supervisor. 6. Ensure electrical work complies with all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards. 7. Diagnose and repair faults in electrical circuits, lighting systems, switchgear, power outlets, andcontrol panels. 8. Install and program energy-efficient lighting systems, occupancy sensors, and other energy-saving devices in alignment with City sustainability goals. 9. Replace, maintain, and upgrade interior and exterior lighting systems including LED retrofits and troubleshooting photometric controls and timers. 10. Identify and mitigate electrical safety hazards, and ensure all work adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) standards and municipal regulations. 11. Respond to service requests and work orders for electrical issues and complete documentation. 12. Operate snow blowers, shovels, and salt spreaders as necessary. 13. Assist other City tradespersons as required. 14. Assist with minor relocation of office furniture, equipment and material as required. 15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum is a High School Diploma.  Valid Class “G” License.  309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician issued by the Ontario College of Trades (Skilled Trades Ontario).  At least five (5) years of experience as an Electrician with a working knowledge of electrical systems and electronic controls.  Working at Heights, Aerial Lift Platform Training, Asbestos Awareness, WHMIS certifications, or ability to obtain within 6 months.  First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.  May be required to work evenings and weekends.  Experience with building automation systems (BAS), fire alarm systems, and emergency generators is considered an asset.  Basic computer skills.
