Job Description



Regional Enforcement Services consists of a Patrol Unit, Parkland Patrol Unit, Community Standards (Bylaw) Unit, Administration Unit, and the Regional Animal Pound.

The County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Regional Enforcement Services Department is a multidisciplinary law enforcement agency dedicated to improving community safety, traffic safety, and infrastructure safety through proactive patrols, cooperative partnerships, crime prevention, education and community policing initiatives.

The purpose of this supervisory position is to oversee the operation of the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Regional Enforcement Services department Peace Officers and to carry out any other duties required by the Director of Regional Enforcement Services. The Peace Officer Sergeants also ensure that these duties are satisfactorily carried out by all other member of Regional Enforcement Services.

Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Supervise the daily activities of Enforcement Services Peace Officers. Order kit and equipment for department and authorize vehicle repairs. Assist with the preparation of the department’s budget process. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of all new Peace Officers/enforcement services personnel.
  • Enforce appointed Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Statutes of Alberta assigned on the Peace Officer Appointment and other designated legislation (Dangerous Goods, Federal Hours of Service, etc.). Investigate complaints on appointed/designated legislation and ensure compliance with Alberta Traffic Safety Plan 2015 and related traffic plan.
  • Investigate, when requested by the Director, any complaint against a Peace Officer following the Alberta Peace Officer’s Act, Public Security and Enforcement Service and County policy on same. Investigation, as assigned by the Director.
  • Act as a resource person for inquiries regarding municipal bylaws, provincial and whether by public or county request, or refer the matter to the proper authority.
  • Act in the stead of the Director of Regional Enforcement Services as required.
  • Assist with performance management on all Regional Enforcement Services personnel as requested.
  • Monitor unsafe or potentially unsafe road conditions and bring the matter to the attention of the department or person responsible for taking remedial action.
  • Manage and coordinate all OH&S activities and ensure departmental compliance.
  • Complete any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Regional Enforcement Services.
  • Assist the County and Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) by being the alternate ECC Operations Officer as required.
  • Participate in the on-call Supervisor rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Regional Enforcement Services. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years related police or law enforcement experience with a portion gained in a supervisory capacity in the last three to five years.
  • Full Community Peace Officer Level 1 Appointment.
  • Completed Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP) training or PSES Approved equivalent.
  • Completion of Commercial Vehicle Weights and Dimension Course is an asset.
  • Certification in Radar and Lidar Operations is an asset.
  • Experience and training in ICS 300 or 400 are an asset.
  • Proficient with the Alberta First Responder Radio Communication System (AFRRCS).
  • Acceptable Criminal Records Check and RCMP enhanced reliability screening.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Able to meet physical requirements for this position, Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) or equivalent.
