Job Description
We are looking for a Senior GIS Analyst for a 12-month contract position, with possible extensions in Edmonton, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
7.25 hours per day for a total of 36.25 hours per week. Primarily remote with occasional meetings or work sessions in the office.
Role Description
The Senior GIS Analyst provides expertise in instrumentation and spatial data collection, data-driven storytelling, statistical analysis, modelling and data visualizations, and mapping applications. Creates plans and strategies that will identify the various linkages between new and existing data forms, resulting in the integration of data models, and presentation of statistical analysis and data visualizations to help understand and improve service delivery online and offline.
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing and analyzing spatial data to support the broadband initiatives. You will work at the intersection of data analysis, programming, and cartography.
Responsibilities
- Designing data extraction, transformation and loading solutions in accordance with the company geospatial data architecture, framework, principles, models, standards, guidelines
- Bringing together disparate geospatial data and providing analysis on how geospatial features interact
- Transforming data into actionable insights through data Extraction, Transforming and Loading (ETL) to solution interpretation
- Extracting, locating and analyzing geographic data using GIS tools and scripting languages
- Developing GIS data integration & conversion workflows using scripting languages and tools
- Implementing spatial analysis using the most comprehensive set of analytical methods and algorithms available
- Executing analytical models on a schedule so organization operates on the most up-to-date data
- Automate repetitive tasks and streamline GIS processes to enhance productivity and efficiency
- Creating and executing raster analysis models on existing imagery, rasters, and GIS data
- Creating mapping products for spatial analysis using GIS tools and scripting languages
- Develop interactive web maps and applications for data dissemination and decision support
- Producing data visualizations using multiple data sets to customize the information for specific business needs
- Conduct spatial analysis to identify patterns and trends in geographical data
- Perform geostatistical analysis to make predictions based on geographic data
- Create models to simulate real-world scenarios and forecast future events
- Assisting in feasibility studies by providing visual resources and data analysis to inform policymakers and stakeholders on broadband access and adoption
- Preparing reports of geographical statistics based on spatial data
- Creating enterprise geodatabases in relation database systems using tools and scripts
- Creating and managing workflows, scripts to integrate structured geographic data sets from various sources into an enterprise relational database management systems
- Creating and managing workflows to integrate various GIS projections
- Creating and managing scripts to maintain geodatabase integrity and performance
- Compile spatial data sets for a variety of sources including Global Positioning System (GPS) data, field observations, satellite images, and environmental monitoring data.
- Managing security around geodatabases
- Identifying opportunities to automate data transformation and integration tasks and propose solutions
- Verifying survey data and map information
- Establish data maintenance workflows and versioning strategies to ensure data accuracy and consistency
- Develop Map Services, Geoprocessing service, Image services and Geocode services
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field of study
- 8 years experience proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and FME Software
- 5 years of experience creating thematic maps that highlight specific data points or trend
- 5 years experience designing and producing maps that visually represent spatial data.
- 5 years experience developing exploratory analysis by transforming raw data tables and data frames into accurate maps
- 8 years experience in creating and managing geospatial datasets and perform complex spatial queries.
- 5 years experience using statistical techniques to analyze geographic data and make predictions.
- 5 years experience with spatial data extraction, transformation and loading to enterprise geodatabases.
- 8 years experience with spatial analysis. Analyzing and interpreting geographic data, spatial relationships and patterns
Desired Skills and Experience
- 3 years of direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment related to data management, acquisition, preparation, quality and data lineage/provenance.
- 3 years creating detailed maps that show broadband coverage, infrastructure, and demographic information to help identify areas needing improvement.
- 5 years of direct, hands-on experience automating redundant GIS processes, implementing workflows and GIS modeling techniques for streamlining business operations.
- 5 years experience converting coordinates, lines, boundaries, and place names from structured and unstructured data
- 5 years experience creating and deploying map services, feature services, geoprocessing services, geocoding services.
- 3 years hands-on experience creating models to simulate real-world scenarios and forecast future events.
- 3 years experience performing business requirement analysis related to data manipulation/transformation, cleansing and wrangling.
- 3 years experience with version control systems like Git, GitHub, for managing code and collaborating with other developers
- 5 years experience working with ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabase development and maintenance using SQL Server.
- 3 years experience in RESTful APIs and how to integrate them into GIS applications
- 3 years experience with mobile GIS applications for data collection and fieldwork, such as Collector for ArcGIS or Survey123.
- 3 years experience working with Alberta Town System (ATS)
- 3 years experience working with Python programming language.
- 5 years of strong problem-solving skills to address complex spatial issues
