This person will be Koala Japan’s leader for visual excellence: helping the brand to evolve its assets while driving business performance. The chosen person will play the key role in how Koala appears in Japan: via our website, digital & offline advertising, social media, and in physical spaces. What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

• Raise Koala’s standard for design: from website, typography, advertising, to physical touchpoints including our showroom & future pop up events

• Partner with JP Creative Lead to ensure brand consistency across all outputs, while pushing the envelope on creative

• Create graphics, videos, and other creative across all platforms (including, but not limited to, digital ads, paid and organic social media, email, direct mail, website, etc).

• Digest briefs and directives into on-brand assets that meet business goals.

• Cross functional communication: digest & discuss design briefs from various stakeholders clearly and confidently

• Understand Koala’s brand guidelines, and help bring them to life with local relevance

• Management and mentorship of other designers on the team

• Analyze the competitive landscape about design and present findings to the team

• Keep up-to-date knowledge of the creative landscape, trends, and software

• Assisting in conceptualizing and brainstorming creative ideas

• Creating and updating briefs, decks, templates, or guidelines, optimizing briefing process

• Utilize provided data and analytics to guide design decisions

• Present work to the team, and adjust design decisions according to feedback

• Meet deadlines, assure work is high quality and reflects brand standards

Ideal background... 

• 5+ years experience in a graphic design role or similar

• Proficient with video editing and Adobe CC software

• Experience with social media

• Experience in Ecommerce, DTC or retail background

• Ability to design across platform for 360° campaigns

• Minimum educational level: Associates in graphic design or a related field

• Experience in the DTC, retail, and /or high-ticket product industry a plus

• Ability to clearly communicate design choices

• Nice to have: Experience with photography art direction or running shoots

• Nice to have: DTC or e-commerce background (especially sleep, wellness, beauty, lifestyle)
