Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Services, the Adult Enrichment and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining social recreational, health and educational programs and activities for seniors and providing support to the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) partnership programs.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

Program Delivery
  • Develop and maintain social, recreational, health and educational programs and activities.
  • Review the social, recreational and educational needs of older adults in the community and develop and revise programs accordingly to meet the changing needs of the community.
  • Maintain a connection to the community by conducting outreach to ensure program relevancy to target group.
  • Establish partnerships with agency staff and other community organizations when necessary to ensure programs and activities meet the specific needs of the community.
  • Work with other department staff as a team to mutually support and enhance the work of the department.
  • Encourage members’ participation in planning and developing programs and activities.
  • Work with older adults in advocating for changes and improving their quality of life.
  • Keep members and older adults in the community informed of programs and activities.
  • Attend to emotional/social (non-task oriented) needs of program participants; facilitating the interaction among participants as well as the development of goals.
  • Responsible for the organizing and implementation of day-to-day programs/activities including liaising with organizations such as public health, Toronto District School Board and other local organizations (e.g. Regent Park Community Health Centre, Woodgreen)
  • Plan, coordinate and implement satellite programming in the community to meet identified needs.
  • Provide support to the Good Company Lunch Program and Meet & Eat program; including maintaining weekly program statistics.
Administration
  • Establish and maintain client files, statistics, requisitioning monies for programming operational expenses and other data as required.
  • Maintain statistics for Good Company Lunch Program and Meet & Eat Program (ACT partnership programs).
  • Provide appropriate information and referral to seniors, caregivers, stakeholders.
  • Purchase program supplies, collect fees for programs and annual membership.
  • Provide information for funder reports as necessary.
  • Work with Manager in monitoring expenditures.
  • Conduct strategic planning and evaluation in consultation with Manager and team members to ensure programs are cost effective and align with the directions and mandate of the program and the Department.
  • Work with department staff/placement students in furtherance of the agency objectives.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Operate in an effective, efficient and client focused manner to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Work collaboratively with the department, Manager and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers.
  • Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events.
  • Work under the guidance of the Agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall.
  • Meet regularly with Manager to discuss individual, team and program effectiveness.
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned, within the purview of the job description.
  • Other duties as required.
 
Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary education in Social Services, Gerontology or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in developing and implementing program activities for older adults.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and co-operatively both in a consultation and jointly with others.
  • Experience, knowledge, comfort working in a diverse low-income community.
  • Experience in community and interagency communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.
  • Ability to work with various ethnic groups.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Ability to help resolve conflicts in an effective, efficient manner.
  • A second language is a definite asset.
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy utilizing MS Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Flexibility in planning programs based on client needs, resources available, extenuating circumstances, supervisor's directions, department's objectives and goals.
  • Knowledge of AlayaCare will be considered an asset.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
