Job Summary

The Company Controller oversees all accounting, financial reporting, and administrative operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across six business entities in the USA and Canada. This strategic role maintains financial integrity by adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) , managing cash flow, and supporting long-term business planning.

The Controller directly manages the accounting team, leads month-end and year-end close processes, implements robust internal controls, and provides key insights to support strategic financial decisions. Additionally, this role supervises administrative functions to ensure smooth and effective day-to-day operations.

We seek a detail-oriented, proactive leader who can drive operational excellence, enhance financial performance, and ensure compliance across a multi-entity, cross-border organization .

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Accounting

  • Prepare and present financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll, GL, and reconciliations .
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS, tax regulations, and audit requirements .
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow .
  • Lead annual audits and liaise with external auditors/tax advisors.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets.

2. Cash Management

  • Optimize cash flow planning and working capital .
  • Manage bank accounts, intercompany transactions, and collections .
  • Ensure adherence to spending controls and financial policies .

3. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and government regulations .
  • Research technical accounting issues and implement best practices.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes , including inventory preparation.

4. Team & Administrative Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting, payroll, and administrative staff .
  • Conduct performance reviews and guide the accounting team’s professional development.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance ; CPA or CMA preferred .

Experience:

  • 7+ years in accounting/finance, with 3+ years in supervising an accounting team .

Skills:

  • Expertise in accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Excel .
  • Adaptability to learn an in-house system .
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax laws, and financial reporting .
  • Proven leadership in managing accounting professionals.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills .

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work : Primarily desk-based with extended computer use (up to 8 hours/day ).
  • Occasional lifting of files/supplies (up to 10 kg / 22 lbs ).
  • Ability to move between office areas to supervise staff or attend meetings.

Work Environment:

  • On-site (Edmonton, Apache Pipeline Products) .
  • Business casual dress code.
  • Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM .
  • Overtime required during financial close, audits, or fiscal year-end .

Travel:

  • Minimal (e.g., occasional meetings with auditors/vendors).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $95,000.00 per year
