The Department of Biochemistry is a dynamic community of 70 faculty, 150 graduate students and 450 undergraduate students. Our research touches on fundamental questions on basic mechanisms of living systems as well as the discovery of new therapeutics against infection, cancer and neurodegenerative disease. As Laboratory Technician, you will support the Attisano lab, focusing on stem cell biology, development and tissue regeneration. Relying on your sharp technical and organizational skills, you will conduct collaborative cell biological research and coordinate the purchasing and maintenance of supplies.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process
  • Collecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findings
  • Preparing statistical reports and summaries from data collected
  • Troubleshooting routine equipment repairs
  • Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students/employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols
  • Ordering and maintaining supplies
  • Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science (B.Sc.) in relevant science field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum one year relevant experience in a molecular biology or biochemistry lab
  • Relevant experience in general cell biological techniques, including immunofluorescence microscopy, RNA extraction and Real-Time PCR
  • Extensive experience in culturing diverse mammalian cell lines, including primary cell lines and human pluripotent stem cell lines
  • Experience following rules and procedural instructions with sterilization, handwashing and cleaning procedures related to lab maintenance
  • Experience with providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting experimental results, trouble-shooting experiments, and managing conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Experience maintaining laboratory records, and collecting, maintaining and verifying laboratory results
  • Excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills; and ability toexercise sound judgement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to exercise initiative and deal effectively with other members of the lab, including experience demonstrating general laboratory procedures to others
  • Experience maintaining shared laboratory spaces and equipment
  • Ability to work under pressure with scientific deadlines
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues
  • Excellent manual dexterity required
